Welcome back to the SSS blog How series. This time we explored Pilates Reformer.
If you have ever noticed the machine with a sliding platform in the studio and wondered about what it is, you are not alone. This can be seen a little intimidating at first, but the reformator is designed to help you move better, build strength, and challenge your core in a new way.
Like Mat Pilates, this is all about connecting the mind and body. Every movement is carried out with control and precision, which makes it demand but also very useful.
The Reformer added his own touch with a spring that created resistance. Depending on how they are set, they can help you stretch deeper or increase intensity, give you exercise that adapts to your level and making things interesting.
Can Pilates Reformers Build Muscles?
Yes, Pilates Reformer can help you build muscles, especially in a slim and tight way. Unlike mat-based pilates, reformer resistance systems challenge your body through springs and pulleys, involving deeper muscles throughout the nucleus, glutes, arms, and legs. Over time, this increases strength and endurance.
Although it will not stir the muscles in the same way as heavy body weight, pilates reformers are very good for sculpting and defining while also increasing flexibility. In places such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, many studios offer special classes that focus on conditioning and alignment of the whole body. With consistency, real changes in muscle tone and posture can appear after only a few sessions.
Is Pilates Reformer good for beginners?
Yes, Pilates Reformer can be good for beginners. With the guidance of coaches that meet the requirements, you will learn to use machines safely, focus on the right form, and gradually build confidence with each session.
Instructor Liz Marshall from Real Pilates Studio demonstrates the foundation of Amanda students, adjusts resistance, involves the core, and strengthens the correct alignment through each movement.

This is a little recap of what you need to know:
1. The Springs: In a reformator, springs are adjusted to change the level of resistance. This makes the movements easier or more challenging, depending on your settings.
No reformer at home? You can still get the same effect by using resistance bands. Explore the Sun & Sand Sports Pilates collection, including Body Sculptures Pilates Band, to add resistance to your MAT training and remain consistent with your training.
2. Warming: Start with some warm -up exercises at the level of resistance you choose. This helps your body adjust before developing to more demanding movements.

3. Core stability: Keep your stomach muscles involved to support the right shape and stability in every exercise.

4. Challenge yourself: After you stay, increase the difficulty. Change the spring, adjust the speed, or add more repetition to push yourself further.

5. Try: Stay consistent, stay aware, and enjoy the process.
